Let us answer your questions with this Q&A!

ΩΦΑ

Q: What exactly is Omega Phi Alpha?

A: Omega Phi Alpha is a national service sorority dedicated to serving others. Tennessee Tech's chapter is Epsilon chapter, and it remains the only service sorority on campus.

Q: I love service! How do I go about joining this sorority?

A: Every semester, Omega Phi Alpha hosts what is known as Rush, a week long event where you get to meet the sisters and see what OPA is all about. Unlike many other organizations, we host a spring and a fall Rush, which is separate from Panhellenic Rush. If you are interested in Rushing, keep an eye out for Rush dates that will be posted when they are available.

Q: Rush? Umm...what all does that involve?

A: At Rush, you will join the OPA sisters for food, games, and lots of fun! We want to get to know you while you're here, and we definitely want you learn about us too. At Rush, you will meet many of the sisters and learn a bit more about what it is like to be in Omega Phi Alpha. A typical Rush schedule looks something like this:

Monday: Sisterhood night(time to meet the sisters)

Tuesday: Leadership night(fun and games provided)

Wednesday: Theme night(dress up according to the theme if you want)

Thursday: Interview night(wear your Sunday best and come out for an interview)

Q: My schedule is really busy. What if I can't make it to all the nights?

A: Don't worry about it! You don't have to be present at every single night of Rush. We know that people have night classes and other commitments to attend to. These nights are mainly for your benefit so that you can experience OPA. The only night that is usually required is Thursday night. If at all possible, we would like for you to be present for an interview. If Thursdays are an issue, simply let us know so that we can reschedule your interview.

Q: How will I know if I get accepted?

A: In Omega Phi Alpha, we hand out bids to our accepted Rushees. We will have a bid day that you will be invited to if you are accepted. Once you accept your bid, you will become a pledge of Omega Phi Alpha.

Q: Ok! So, what does pledging require?

A: Pledging is a semester-long process in which you are initiated into Omega Phi Alpha. As a part of this process, you will be required to participate in 15 hours worth of service projects, meet with the active sisters, attend weekly pledge meetings, go to one active meeting, and meet with your BIG sister 10 times. It may sound like a lot, but any of the sisters will tell you that it's worth it. We also have a VERY strict policy against hazing, so you will never have to worry about being hazed while you are pledging OPA.

Q: That sounds fun and all, but how much is my wallet going to suffer after this?

A: Surprisingly, Omega Phi Alpha is one of the most reasonable Greek options on campus. Fees for your pledge semester are typically around $150. However, this amount goes down to about $140 once you are an active sister. These fees go towards paying national active dues, contributing to OPA's budget for the semester, and paying for things like your Rush shirt and active pins.

Q: That sounds great! So when is Rush?

A: Rush dates vary depending on the semester. Be sure to check back on this website frequently for updated Rush information! We will post any info as soon as it is available.
